Why do I keep waking up with a rapid pulse?
I’m just 21 years old and I keep waking up with a rapid pulse and I’m not sure why. Its the 3rd time in 4 days. Why kind of problem could this be?

It could be anything and I’m sure it’s probably not serious.
Could be stress, could be that something is waking you up very quickly and scaring you. It could also be a condition known as MVP (Mitral Valve Prolapse). It’s where one of the valves in the heart doesn’t close completely and blood backwashes. One of the main symptoms is rapid heartbeat AT TIMES. It’s not a serious condition.
If it keeps happening, I’d go to the doctor and just have it checked.

My guess would be anxiety.. I sometimes deal with it though it affects me more during the day or as I approach stressful situations.

Stress and anxiety are usually the main culprits, but get checked out by a doctor to be sure.

Possible causes:
1. Caffeine from coffee, tea, soft drinks, energy drinks! or — stress, lack of sleep.
2. medications – decongestants! , antidepressants, and many others cause fast heart rate
3. Cardiac conduction problem, such as Wolf parkinson White Syndrome, or another conduction abnormality.
Heart disease (can happen even in young people).
Cardiac infection or tumor (we are talking more serious here, but very unlikely).
GO AND SEE YOUR DOCTOR, insist on EKG and you also need a cardiac consult.

it’s possible that your sleeping is inhibited by snoring or the like your starving your heart of oxygen so when you wake up your heart is in the panic mode until you breath regular and if your rapid heart goes away then you have some kind of sleep problem, i would still talk to a doc not this computer sceen.
